Augmentative Communication and Technology Center (ACT)
This center provides comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services to children and adults in need of specialized communication systems. Services are available through our Preschool Special Education Program and School Program, Supplemental Day Habilitation Program, and Article 16 Clinic.
The ACT Center meets complex communicative needs through specialized diagnostics, therapeutic services, and state-of-the-art low- and high-tech communications solutions. We evaluate each person's physical, cognitive, and linguistic needs to determine the appropriate communications system for that individual.
ACT services include the following:
- assessment of an individual's ability to use electronic or manual communications systems
- training in the use of customized communications systems for individuals, their families / caregivers, or the staff working with them
- providing assistance in securing the recommended system or equipment
